Festivities should be bountiful at Christmas time, lots of yummy food, special gifts and tons of Christmas cheer. What happens though if you give your wife a bad gift? Chances are your Christmas cheer could end up like a scene out of Bad Santa or worse still, you could be out in the cold with no dinner.

Sometimes the best way to choose a great gift for your beloved is to know what you shouldn't give her at Christmas, ever! So what are some of the gifts you should steer well clear of? Let's consider these as a starting point.

Appliances for the house - just think of the look on your wife's face when she unwraps the fantastic new iron you bought her, or the swanky new steam mop or how about that new vacuum cleaner the sales guy guaranteed she'd love. Wrong. Think sharp guys, we will not be impressed by shiny new appliances that are used for daily chores.

Anything Car related - Unless your wife is a car enthusiast or spends her weekends restoring hot rods then no go. Actually let's make that anything petrol run, this includes lawn mowers, go karts and dune buggies.

Exercise Equipment - Do we even really need to go into this? I think it's best we do. Just to be on the safe side. Even if she's an athlete, any gift to do with exercise is fraught with danger. You may as well write "I think you're fat!" on her Christmas card. There, I said it, because she'll think it, unless of course you have a wife who never reads into anything that you do or say. Lucky you if you do, you should buy her a good gift. Even if she is, you'll probably end up with an even chubbier wife if you give her anything to do with exercise including, equipment, apparel and any kind of health club membership. You may however be excused if the health club membership has unlimited day spa services included.

Anything Gaming related - I'm not talking about hunting although this would be a good time to tell you this should be off the list also. I refer to that new gaming console you think she'll find fun for the whole family. It won't fly, actually it just might.

Power Tools - I should be able to assume that anything to do with power tools should be nowhere to be seen on your list or even a distant thought. But, I do have a friend that received a power drill from her husband. She said she asked for it, I asked her to be honest. Whilst I know there are some females that would actually really enjoy receiving some form of power tool, my guess though they would be a minority.

When you start to think about your Christmas gift list keep in mind what the gift will say. Tea towels will imply you expect her to do the dishes, a cookbook will suggest you want her to cook for you and a gift card might give the impression you couldn't be bothered. Gift giving occasions are an opportunity to show your appreciation, a big grandiose gesture isn't necessary, just something personal about her will guarantee you a seat at the Christmas dining table. So, unless one of these kinds of gifts are expressly requested, don't go there. You've been warned.
